File Visibility Mistakes
It is often very important to control who see your files. Unfortunately, too often either the people you don't want to see your files can, or the people you want to see them are unable to. I have some recommendations minimize 'mistakes' in setting the visibility as you want it.
| Example #1: Didn't Cascade Hidden Settings Professor Jones prepared all of his course lessons before the start of his course, but plans to make edits to many of them before letting the students in. He put each Lesson in a separate folder, then hid all of the folders he isn't finished editing. Shortly after the course begins he starts getting questions from students about content they shouldn't even be able to see yet. How can this happen? |
|
| Mistake #1: | Hiding a folder, but not cascading the settings. |
| Consequences: | Students can still access all of the files that are thought to be hidden. They still show up in the "What's New" agent. |
| Severity: | Possibly Very Severe |
| Solution: | To hide a folder AND all of its contents,
|
![]() A folder properly set so that its contents are hidden from the "What's New" agent. |
