Unlock Action to Release Content
Use the Action Editor to Unlock Material Based on a Student’s Quiz Score
The ANGEL Action Editor is an advanced tool that allows you to define actions to be taken when certain events and conditions occur. For example, an action could be defined to allow a student to gain access to previously locked material (action) after the submission of a quiz (event), only if their quiz grade is above 80% (condition).
The following section outlines the steps required to unlock previously locked material based on a student quiz score.
Note: The steps below assume that your course already contains password-protected content. If your course does not contain password-protected information, then you are recommended to create a sample password protected file to allow you to test your new action once it has been created.
To create an action that unlocks material based on a student's quiz score, perform the following steps:
- Log into your ANGEL course and click the Lessons tab.
- Click the Settings option from the menu just under the quiz title. Click the
Advanced button (located on the Settings toolbar). Finally, choose the Automate tab.
- Scroll down and click the Action Editor link below the Actions text area.
The Action Editor will appear on the screen.
- Click the New button.
The New Action page will appear on the screen.
- Click the Unlock hyperlink.
The Unlock Action page will appear on the screen.
- In the Password(s) textboxes, type the password or passwords for those items you would like to be unlocked when the specified event occurs.
- Select Grade – Process this action when the item is graded from the Event drop down list.
- In the Criteria textbox, type the criteria required to unlock the locked material.
Note: The Event setting determines when the action should occur. The Criteria setting can further restrict when the action should fire based on a simple conditional expression or, in the case of the GRADE event, based on the user's total percentage score. To specify a minimum percentage requirement, simply enter the minimum percentage value without the percent sign. To specify a percentage range, enter the minimum percentage, a dash and the maximum percentage. See the appropriate appendix item for additional Boolean expressions that are supported.
- Click the Save button located at the bottom of the screen.
The Action Editor will appear on the screen. - Click the Save button at the top of the Action Editor.
A dialog box will appear with the message, “The Actions setting in the main editor window has been updated. For your changes to take effect, you’ll still need to save changes in the main editor window.” - Click OK.
- Complete your quiz to ensure the new action is triggered when the specified minimum score (or higher) is received.
- Access your previously locked content to ensure the content was properly unlocked. You
should be able to access the content without providing a password.
Note: In order for the quiz to be graded you need to assign a point value to the questions.
