Adding a Tab

To add a new tab to ANGEL:

  1. Go to the Manage tab
  2. Under Course Settings, click Environment Variables to open the Environment Variables Manager.
  3. Click the Add a Variable link under the heading.
  4. As the Variable Name enter "TABS"
  5. As the Variable Value enter In the Variable Value box enter
    "Home=Course, Calendar=Calendar, Content=Lessons, Resources=Resources, InTouch=Communicate, Reports=Report, Agents=Automate, Tools=Manage, Google=Google"

(replace "New=New" with the name you want to use for your tab, such as Teach Online=Teach Online, and place it where you would like the new tab to appear, in this case it will place the new tab after the Manage tab)

Warning: the syntax is critical - a mistype could cause all your tabs to disappear. It is best to copy and paste when possible.

  6. Now Save the new variable

To change the text of your new tabs and to add properties to them,

  1. Click on the Manage tab
  2. Click on the Tab Settings link under Course Settings
  3. Change the text of your new tabs by changing the appropriate name under the Labels column
  4. Add a link destination to your new tab by typing the link into the URL column to the right of the tab name.
  5. Press Save when you are finished

Note: You may need to log out of your course and log back in for the new tab(s) to show up.

Note: you do not add a link in the URL column, your new tab will present a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error when you access it.

Example:
Here is how to add a tab labeled "Google":

Here is how to make the "Google" tab go to http://www.google.com:

Note: this works best if you give the new tab a URL outside of the ANGEL system (i.e. a web site or document on another server).

Note: If you want to add more than one new tab, follow "New Tab" with a comma and then add another tab using the same syntax as above.

Note: If you have mistakenly disabled your Manage tab, you will need to send a request to the ANGEL Administrators to have it re-enabled. There is a warning box that appears when you attempt to disable or set the "Viewable By" to Course/Group Administrators which makes it difficult to do this.
